Kalimpong is a hilltop town located at the east of river Teesta. This sleepy little town is situated at an altitude of 1,200 mtrs, some 50 kms to the east of Darjeeling. Because of its location at a relatively lower altitude, the weather is milder and pleasant throughout the year. This place is an ideal location for the tourists looking for a comfortable stay sheltered from the harsh cold winds and with a picturesque view of the Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan snow peaks. Kalimpong is a melting pot of diverse cultures which is reflected in its cuisines, architecture, and amongst the locals.

Visit this town for its stunning mountain views, quaint walks across the town while having a bite or two in the local eateries. By Air: The nearest airport to Kalimpong is Bagdogra. There are direct flight connections with Delhi, Kolkata, Howrah, and Guwahati. There are several transport facilities available from Bagdogra to reach Kalimpong.

By Train: The two closest railway stations are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri. These railway stations have direct railway connections with Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Varanasi, and other major cities of India.

By Road: The major access to Kalimpong by road is via Siliguri, which is connected to all the major cities.

Located among the hilly terrains of Durpin Dara, lies the 18 hole Army golf course maintained by the Indian Army at Kalimpong in West Bengal. Army officers can be seen playing golf in the early hours of morning. The place has special significance for tourists as the surrounding areas are covered with trees such as Oaks, Dhupi (Cryptomeria Japonica) and Cypress which increases the splendor of the place. Lava is a small hamlet town about 33km away from Kalimpong and is surrounded by pine forests and is often engulfed in mists and clouds. It is situated at an altitude of 2,350 meters. The village hosts a beautiful monastery of Bhutanese origin and a Nature Interpretation Centre. This place is popular amongst nature explorers and is renowned for bird watching. It is also the starting point for treks into the Neora Valley National Park, which abounds with floral and faunal wealth. The route to Lava is scenic with the change in vegetation from tropical deciduous to the wet alpine trees of fir, pine and birch. The lush forests of Lava are ideal for nature treks, bird watching, and plant and wildlife exploration. The Sherpa View Point here provides an excellent view of the snow-crested mountains of Bhutan and Tibet.

Rachela Pass is a 12km trekking route from Lava through the Neora Valley Nature Reserve. The route being steep offers scenic beauty of magnolias, rhododendrons, and bamboo trees. The treks highest point is the Rachela top on the ridge forming the border. It’s a tri junction between Sikkim, West Bengal, and Bhutan. The region is also a natural habitat for Red Panda and Tigers.

Tiffin Dara is a famous viewpoint in the lap of Kolbong forest range of Eastern Himalayas. It is known for giving the 360-degree uninterrupted and spectacular view of the Kanchenjunga.
