Princep Ghat, located on the banks of River Hooghly, is a majestic structure famous for its Greek/ Gothic inlays. The beauty of Princep Ghat draws architecture and history buffs in large numbers. It was built in the year 1841, during the British Raj in India. The ghat has been named after an ingenious Anglo-Indian researcher and scholar, James Princep after whom this was built. Princep ghat is located along the banks of the river Ganges.
The Ghat is a peaceful retreat for nature lovers with the presence of gardens, lawns, park benches, and shady trees. Visitors can take a nice long walk along the riverside through the gardens and trees. Boating is a favorite recreational activity at the Princep Ghat. These river cruises last for a few minutes to an hour, and tourists can choose from traditional wooden boats and speedboats.

By Train: Howrah is the nearest station, situated just 5 kms from the site. Princep Ghat has own Circular Railway station. Nearest Metro Railway Station is Park Street.
By Road: Bus services are available to reach there. Outram Ghat is nearly ferry ghat to reach there. Local buses, minibuses and metered taxis are readily available from various parts of the city.
